Security breach forces lounge evacuation at Winnipeg airport

There were long lines at Winnipeg's James Armstrong Richardson International Airport Saturday afternoon after a security breach forced the evacuation of the domestic departures lounge.

Few details are available, but a spokesperson said every passenger in the domestic lounge had to be re-screened by security for safety reasons.

Mary Lee Dawson was one of the passengers tied up at the airport. Dawson said she wasn't concerned and she was glad the airport took the precaution.

"It was a security breach, they caught it, and they were handling it and, you know, I wasn't too, too worried," she said.

At least 400 passengers were affected, the airport authority said.

Delays were expected for some outbound Saturday flights.

The airport wouldn't release any further details about the nature of the breach.
