See All the Best 2024 Oscars Red Carpet Looks

The 2024 Academy Awards are officially upon us, and after a stellar year of standout films, it’s high time we celebrate the return of cinema.

Blockbusters like Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” are poised as fan favorites, with IndieWire’s awards editor Anne Thompson predicting that “Oppenheimer” will go the way of 2023 Best Picture winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and sweep many of the core awards categories.

Indies such as “American Fiction,” “Past Lives,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” and “The Zone of Interest” round out the diverse films being recognized by the Academy. Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers” also mark auteur returns to the annual awards ceremony, with actress Lily Gladstone and Da’Vine Joy Randolph from the respective features expected to take home acting titles of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress on March 10.

Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” remain buzzy nominees, as Cooper, Carey Mulligan, Mark Ruffalo, and Emma Stone are all in the running for acting wins.

The 2024 Academy Award nominees are among the most diverse ever, and the expected presenters are almost as highly anticipated as this year’s nominees themselves. As Academy Awards executive producer Katy Mullan told IndieWire, the 96th Oscars will include returning winners like Nicolas Cage, Mahershala Ali, Rita Moreno, and Charlize Theron to present new winners their statues.

“We’ve been calling it the Fab Five from the beginning because you’ve got these five incredible nominees, and what better way to celebrate them and honor them than by putting five former winners on stage,” Mullan said. “And one of the big things that we’ve talked about a lot is connection, and how we create that connection between the presenters on stage, the nominees, and the audience at home.”

Academy Awards showrunner Raj Kapoor added,  “Your job as an Oscars producer is to honor the show. So when all of us got the gig, we all decided to do homework. You go back and you examine what was successful, what worked, but then also what we can innovate and change and make it fresh and look new. So there may be some amazing ideas from the past. But we will put our own spin on it. Everyone will feel like they are part of the show.”

The 2024 Academy Awards are hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will air live on ABC. Check out the red carpet photos below.
