Sept-Îles helicopter crash: Transport Safety Board talks to witnesses

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has described Wednesday's helicopter crash north of Sept-Îles as "powerful."

Investigators have interviewed several witnesses, including the pilot.

The TSB says the chopper was trying to land by the side of a river when it lost control about ten metres off the ground.

The two people who died in the crash were Pierre-Michel Fontaine, an employee of Quebec's Environment Ministry and Blandine Pinette-Fontaine, from Uashat-Maliotenam.

Their team had been carrying out an environmental assessment of a conservation project on the Nipissis River.

The helicopter went down on Wednesday morning in a wooded, rugged area of the province's North Shore region.

The Bell 206 helicopter had left from the airport in nearby Sept-Îles, about 650 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

It crashed just 30 kilometres from the airport around 9:45 a.m.
