Seth Meyers, Chelsea Handler Get Emotional When Addressing Women After Election
On the first Late Night since Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, Seth Meyers had a tough time keeping his emotions in check when addressing women and girls. He especially got choked up when talking about his mother. He said that she was really excited about the prospect of a female president and that he was really sad that it will be at least another four years before that is a possibility. He said he hopes she lives to see the inauguration of the first female commander in chief. Meyers also had sympathetic words for parents who had to explain the results of the election to their children, especially parents with daughters.
Meyers said, “I do really feel for the parents who had to explain this to their kids this morning. Especially parents with daughters, because a lot of them, like me, probably thought Hillary would be our first woman president. But she won’t be. But that does mean that someone’s daughter is out there right now who will one day have that title.”
Many other late-night hosts had somber moments in regard to the election results. And much like Meyers, Chelsea Handler could not hold back her emotions while conducting an interview with California Sen. Barbara Boxer. Handler said that the outcome of the election felt sexist, but also that she wants to spread the message to women to not give up and to continue to fight.
