After seven years, fried chicken chain closes its last Johnson County restaurant

Fried chicken restaurant Zaxby’s just closed its last location in Johnson County.

The drive-thru at 12195 S. Strang Line Road in Olathe closed a few weeks ago, said John Nolan of Crossroads Realty. The Georgia-based company has three spots left in the Kansas City area: 5201 N.E. Antioch Road, 10430 N.E. Cookingham Drive and 2035 N. 109th St. in Kansas City, Kansas.

Another Zaxby’s, 4661 Bauer Farm Drive in Lawrence, recently closed and is listed for sale.

Its other former Johnson County location, 9500 W. 135th in Overland Park, is now a Beef-A-Roo.

Zaxby’s sells chicken fingers, fried chicken sandwiches, fried pickles and more. The chain started in Statesboro, Georgia, in 1990.

Zaxby’s entered the Kansas City market in 2016 with its Olathe and Overland Park locations.

Nolan said the franchise group that owned the former Johnson County spots is looking to exit the market.
