Seven parts of Charlotte experiencing water outages. When will service be restored?

At least seven areas of Charlotte were without water Wednesday as the city’s utility company worked to repair pipes in separate parts of the city.

The outages were expected to last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, Charlotte Water officials said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Two outages scheduled to last 6 to 8 hours are planned for Thursday, officials said.

Wednesday’s longest outage was anticipated to last 6 to 8 hours in the 6600 block of Nations Ford Road in southwest Charlotte.

A water main break caused the outage affecting at least 1,000 customers in the Tyvola Road to Interstate 77 area, Charlotte Water spokesman Cam Coley said.

Charlotte Water initially notified only about 20 customers in the area of the break but expanded the outage area when crews verified which pipe needed to be turned off for the repairs, Coley said.

That outage began at 10 a.m., Charlotte Water officials said.

“We will update you once your water service is restored,” utility officials said on Twitter.

“Water main breaks happen for a variety of reasons, and we cannot say what caused this break specifically, since it happened underground,” Coley told The Charlotte Observer.

Other water pipe repair work in Charlotte

There were also pipe repairs in these other areas of the city Wednesday:

At 1:30 a.m., Charlotte Water crews began repairing a water pipe affecting service in the 19600 block of Heartland Street and the 10500 block of Danesway Lane in Cornelius.

Service was restored 6 hours later, Charlotte Water reported.

Just after 7 a.m., water was out on the 12300 block of Olympic Club Drive for up to 4 hours to repair a pipe. That’s off Tom Short Road in south Charlotte.

At 9:30 a.m., Charlotte Water crews were repairing a water pipe affecting service in the 700 block of Aintree Road and the immediate area. The repair required an outage expected to last 2 to 4 hours, according to the utility.

Aintree Road is off The Plaza in northeast Charlotte.

At 10 a.m., crews spent up four hours fixing a pipe in the Ebony Road area of north Charlotte.

Just before 10:30 a.m., workers were fixing a water pipe affecting service to Walden Lea Drive in Huntersville.. Water was out for up to 4 hours.

And just before 1 p.m., water was out for up to 4 hours in the Avalon Avenue area for a pipe repair. Avalon Avenue is off Tuckaseegee Road in west Charlotte.

Charlotte Water constantly maintains at least 9,000 miles of water and wastewater pipe, Coley said. That includes emergency and routine repairs requiring temporary water outages, he said.

Thursday planned outages

Similar outages of up to 8 hours are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Forest Drive and Rocky Ford Club Road areas, Charlotte Water said Wednesday afternoon.

Forest Road is off South Wendover Road near Sharon Road in south Charlotte. Rocky Ford Club Road is north of Interstate 485 in northeast Charlotte.
