Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Toronto, GTA

Toronto ends heat alert in place since Sunday

A humid start to Saturday could be cracked by an afternoon thunderstorm, Environment Canada says.

The agency issued a severe thunderstorm watch and warned there's a chance of potentially dangerous storms in the city and across much of southern Ontario.

The agency's forecast calls for the stormy weather to arrive in the city, as well as much of the GTA, later this afternoon, bringing with it wind and rain.

The storm is set to be followed by around 10 millimetres of rain during the evening hours, and there will also be a temperature drop from Saturday's high of 29 C to a high of just 10 C on Sunday.
