Shameless Grandson Steals Nan's £30,000 Life Savings And Spends It On Drugs And Booze

A woman has kicked her son out of home after he shamelessly helped himself to his gran’s life savings.

Conner Borthwick pilfered £30,000 from Sandra Main, 70, and spent the lot on drugs, gambling and booze.

The 22-year-old spent four months dipping into the biscuit tins where his gran had saved her spare cash for three decades.

When his mum, Diane Borthwick, got wind of what had been happening, she threw him out of the family home in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

Conner stole the money between September last year and January this year, when his gran was out and his grandfather John - who has Alzheimer’s - was oblivious to what he was up to.

Mum-of-three, Diane, 49, said: “I felt absolutely horrible when I found out that it was my own son who had been stealing the money. It was a disgusting thing to do.“

Diane received a kidney transplant in March after going through seven years of dialysis.

The family believe Conner was stealing the money while Diane was in hospital - and when Sandra was visiting her.

Diane added: "My mum said that he has broken her heart. She was always the one that would stick up for him and this is how he repaid her. To do this to my mum and dad is absolutely disgusting. He’s a scumbag.”

Conner spent the money on clothes, drink, drugs and online gambling, as well as taking his friends away on holiday.

Diane said: "He would show off in front of everyone about how much money he had. We just assumed he was winning it through his online gambling.”

Last week at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Conner admitted to the thefts and was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

He has also been ordered to pay back £250 a month in compensation to the amount of just £6,000.

Diane said: “He only has to pay back around £6,000 over the next two years. What is my mum supposed to do without the other £24,000?

"I didn’t think the punishment fits what he did to our family. That’s why I want everyone to know what he did.”
