Sharon Osbourne says nobody will employ her in US after racism row
The star opened up during a chat with her Celebrity Big Brother housemates
What did you miss?
Sharon Osbourne has said that nobody will hire her in the US because they say she is racist.
The Osbournes star used to be on hit US chat show The Talk but she left in March 2021 after she defended her friend Piers Morgan for his comments about Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
She has now opened up about it on ITV's Celebrity Big Brother, where she is the ‘celebrity lodger’ of the series.
What, how, and why?
Osbourne, who is married to Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy Osbourne, was talking to her housemates Lauren Simon and Louis Walsh as they all relaxed on the sofa during Thursday's show (7 March). The trio were discussing the fact that Real Housewives star Simon is facing eviction from the Big Brother house, and were commenting on her speaking her mind.
“I got banned in America,” Osbourne told her, as her X Factor pal Walsh chimed in: “She did nothing wrong!”
“I did nothing wrong,” confirmed Osbourne, as Simon asked if she was actually still able to work in TV in the US.
“I can legally," explained Osbourne. “But nobody will employ me because they say I am racist.”
Simon asked how that could be, noting that Osbourne is Jewish. “I know and that’s what I said to them!” Osbourne replied.
“They think we don’t know what it’s like to be picked on… I wouldn’t pick on anyone because of their race or religion, ever,” she added.
What happened on The Talk?
Osbourne left The Talk following a debate with her co-host Sheryl Underwood. The pair had been talking about Morgan’s criticism of Markle, after the broadcaster suggested he didn't believe some of the things Markle had said in her chat with Winfrey, and Osbourne defended him from allegations of racism.
She made her own stance clear, posting a message on social media telling fans "I do not condone racism, misogyny or bullying", but later claimed she had been "blacklisted". The Talk went on hiatus for a few weeks amid the fallout, and Osbourne ended up exiting the show.
She and husband Ozzy - who have three children together - are now moving back to the UK, after many years living across the pond.
