Singaporean restaurant coming to downtown, more Korean food in Lacey, dine here for holiday

A restaurant called Streets of Singapore is taking shape on Capitol Way in downtown Olympia.

The Streets of Singapore shingle has been hung and there’s a “coming soon” sign in the window at 913 Capitol Way S., a block north of Wagner’s Bakery.

The business is expected to have its soft opening Dec. 1 and a grand opening Jan. 1, said Christopher Leong on Thursday. His wife, Nantawan, is the primary owner and chef, he said.

Chris Leong was born in Singapore, the city-state in Southeast Asia that is home to a variety of cultures and foods. Streets of Singapore aims to reflect that mix by offering dishes from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, he said.

Some of those dishes: Singapore chicken rice, Malaysian fried rice, Indonesian vegetarian curry, Thai green curry (which is made with avocados), and a Singaporean kebab.

The restaurant’s tagline: “Southeast Asian comfort foods.”

However, do not expect to dine in because the business is setting itself up as a to-go enterprise. Customers will have to pre-order their meals online and then pick them up, although walk-in traffic will be available, Chris Leong said.

They also plan to prepare food in small batches, so that it tastes fresh and not as if it came out of a package, he said.

Streets of Singapore will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., Chris said.
