Six new teams join NC statewide high school football rankings; Crest moves to 3A No. 1
Six new teams join this week’s N.C. high school football polls, and there’s one new No. 1.
In the 3A poll, Crest High, from Boiling Springs, jumps past Greensboro’s Dudley High to take the top spot. Both teams are 5-0.
Crest, which beat Stuart Cramer 56-0 Friday, is averaging 54 points per game, led by QB Ny’Tavious Huskey, who became the school’s all-time leading passer Friday.
Is any NC high school QB having a better season than Crest’s Ny’Tavious Huskey?
▪ There are two new teams in 4A: 4-1 Hoggard High from Wilmington, and 5-0 Watauga High from Boone.
▪ Hickory High at 5-0 is the lone new team in the 3A poll.
▪ There’s two new teams in the 1A poll: 5-1 North Rowan and 4-1 Eastern Randolph.
▪ And Raleigh’s Ravenscroft School moves into the private school ranking at 4-2.
▪ NOTE: The polls are compiled by 47-year-old Chris Hughes, a co-host for the newspapers’ “Talking Preps” streaming show. Hughes has been going to N.C. high school football games since 1979. He began coaching high school football in 1998 and began covering the sport professionally in 2002 when he launched a statewide website. In 2007, he started CarolinaPreps.com, when he began to do football rankings. Hughes, who has also done color commentary for Shrine Bowl broadcasts, has visited every school stadium in North Carolina.
