SLO County city to host country’s first firework show celebrating International Women’s Day

The city of Atascadero is partnering with At Her Table to celebrate International Women’s Day with a fireworks show — the first such celebration in the United States.

In a news release from At Her Table, the women’s advocacy organization said the event would be the country’s first firework show “dedicated solely to commemorating women’s achievements across the globe.”

The free event will take place on March 8 in the Sunken Gardens in Atascadero.

The Atascadero Historical Society, another partner for the event, will give complimentary tours to talk about the influence of women the city’s development, including highlighting Atascadero’s “pioneering role” as one of the first places where women could own land in their own names without being married prior to women receiving the right to vote.

Live music will be in front of City Hall and the event will close with a celebratory firework display “symbolizing the bright and explosive impact women have made on society,” according to the release.

The event will be contingent on favorable weather conditions, the release said. To stay updated, visit athertable.com/events.
