Sofia Coppola almost directed the last “Twilight” movie but thought baby Renesmee was 'too weird'
Sofia Coppola almost took a fateful trip to Forks, Wash., but things got a little too weird.
The Priscilla filmmaker has spoken before about how she was once in the running to direct the final movie in the Twilight franchise, wrapping up the saga of Bella, Edward, and Jacob. Now she's opening up about that experience, revealing in an interview with Rolling Stone that she liked the idea of a teen vampire movie but couldn't get past the "far out" lore and creepy Renesmee baby.
"We had one meeting, and it never went anywhere," Coppola said. "I thought the whole imprinting-werewolf thing was weird. The baby. Too weird! But part of the earlier Twilight could be done in an interesting way. I thought it'd be fun to do a teen-vampire romance, but the last one gets really far out."

Coppola has had a few brushes with genre fare over the years: At one point, she was attached to direct a live-action Little Mermaid movie for Universal, but that also fell apart. Still, she says she's intrigued by the idea of someday directing a genre movie. (After all, she did have a small role in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace!)
"I think it'd be fun to do sci-fi and I think it'd be fun to do, not like gory, but I like gothic horror," she explained. "I don't have an idea, though."
Bill Condon directed Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and Part 2, which hit theaters in 2011 and 2012. Creepy baby and all.
