‘You need to speak up’: Family of teen killed at Fort Worth party seeks info on shooting

Family members of the 19-year-old who was fatally shot at an after-prom party in south Fort Worth early Sunday are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

Daniel Olalde Moreno died Sunday afternoon in the intensive care unit at JPS from a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“If you have any information on who did this to my brother, you need to speak up,” Olalde’s sister Stephanie told WFAA-TV. “Because this is unfair to us, it’s not fair.”

Officers responded to the 3900 block of Singleleaf Lane shortly before 1 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired at a large party, police said.

They couldn’t find any victims at the scene, but two people with gunshot wounds arrived at JPS around 1:15 a.m. They were both listed in stable condition Sunday morning, according to police.

Olalde arrived at Harris Southwest Hospital in a private vehicle around 2:15 a.m., officials said, and was transported to JPS via CareFlite.

The woman who owns the home where the shooting took place told WFAA that the event was a senior prom after-party for her son, who attends Arlington Heights High School. It was supposed to be a small event, but hundreds of people showed up after someone posted about the party on social media, she said.

Shots were reportedly fired after a fight broke out. The mother, who wasn’t home at the time, told WFAA that as many as 300 people had showed up, including former students who had dropped out of Arlington Heights or already graduated. Members of that group, who were unknown to the family, were possibly responsible for the fight and the shooting, the mother said.

Olalde’s family told KXAS-TV that the 19-year-old had never attended Arlington Heights. They aren’t sure if any of his friends knew the student who hosted the party, but said he was invited over social media and text.

Olalde has five brothers and sisters. He previously attended Polytechnic High School and recently had been helping his father do masonry work, KTVT reported.

One of Olalde’s friends knocked on the door early Sunday and told the family he’d been shot but they thought he was going to be OK, Stephanie told KXAS.

“The doctor came out and she told us they tried everything they could do, but his bleeding wouldn’t stop,” Stephanie said.

Police are investigating the shooting, but no arrests have been announced.

Olalde was supposed to attend Stephanie’s upcoming graduation, but now she’s mourning the fact that she’ll never see him again, WFAA reported.

“He was supposed to be there,” Stephanie told WFAA through tears.
