Spotify Creates Heat Map Of Ed Sheeran Fans To Celebrate First Song To Hit 500M Streams

Singer Ed Sheeran’s song ‘Thinking Out Loud’ has become the first song to hit 500 million streams on Spotify and the the music streaming service has created an online ‘Sheerio Index’ Map to celebrate.

Fans of the global star are sometimes referred to as ‘Sheerios’.

The ideographic heat map shows Sheeran’s fandom by country, ranked by streams per Spotify user.

Ed Sheehan commented: “Chuffed to hear that Thinking Out Loud has had half a billion plays on Spotify. Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix and Chill situation.”

The new milestone makes Sheeran the second-most-streamed artist on Spotify, behind Eminem.

The streaming service also revealed that a surprising one in four Spotify users has Sheeran in at least one playlist while he appears in a whopping 38 million playlists.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sheeran’s home country - the U.K. - contains the highest number of listeners.

The interactive online map plots Ed Sheeran listening around the world in relation to how many registered Spotify users live in those countries.

The redder areas show a higher concentration on Sheerios.

Clicking on each country will reveal its favourite tracks.
