Standoff at northwest Calgary home that sent one officer to hospital ends
Police have taken a man into custody and charges are pending after a prolonged standoff in northwest Calgary that sent one officer to hospital.
Police said they responded to a "domestic call" at a home in Panorama Hills around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and things quickly escalated.
"CPS officers retreated from the home and one officer was stabbed in the foot," reads a news release. "The officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries, treated and released."
An armoured unit was among the dozens of vehicles that camped out in front of the house on Wednesday night on what is normally a quiet, suburban street.
The standoff lasted through the night and into Thursday morning.
"CPS negotiators were brought in to de-escalate the situation and communicate with one man who had barricaded himself alone in the home," said police in the release.
"The situation has since been resolved and one man is currently in custody."
