Star basketball prospect Bronny James opts for college route. He’s not going to a blue blood.

Bronny James will remain in Los Angeles.

The class of 2023 five-star combo guard from Sierra Canyon High School announced Saturday via his Instagram that not only would he be playing college basketball, but that he’ll be doing so at Southern California for head coach Andy Enfield and the Trojans.

The 6-3 senior posted a photo set led by a picture of himself, in his Sierra Canyon uniform, standing in the USC locker room with the caption: “Fight On #committed” accompanied by the “fight on” emoji.

The announcement ends one of the most rumored-filled college basketball recruitments in history, given that Bronny’s father, LeBron James, is an active NBA legend and the limited public news that spilled out about Bronny’s college recruitment.

One of the few concrete pieces of information to emerge from Bronny’s recruitment came in April at the Nike Hoop Summit (which also featured UK signees Justin Edwards and DJ Wagner) in Portland.

“Talking to them, talking to the coaches, it’s good to know they want me there with them,” Bronny said when asked about his teammates at the all-star showcase recruiting him to certain schools. “But at the end of the day, it’s my decision and I need to make the right one for me.”

Per the 247Sports Composite, Bronny is ranked as the No. 21 overall recruit in the class of 2023, and the No. 5 overall combo guard in the class.

A McDonald’s All-American this spring who averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals over the course of his 27-game senior season, Bronny played a significant role in Sierra Canyon’s journey to the CIF Division I state semifinals.

Bronny averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Strive For Greatness program on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring and summer, which included a stop in Louisville in May 2022.

James chose USC over Ohio State and Oregon, and the Trojans have emerged as the team to beat in the Pac-12 next season.

Two other top prospects — five-star point guard Isaiah Collier (the No. 1 player in the 247Sports Composite) and four-star center Arrinten Page (the No. 46 player in the 247Sports Composite) — have already signed with USC for the 2023-24 season.

Much of the narrative throughout Bronny’s high school career has been related to his father LeBron’s previously expressed desire to play in the NBA — and perhaps for the same NBA team — alongside him.

In ESPN’s early 2024 NBA mock draft, Bronny is projected as the No. 10 pick.

For a while, it seemed possible that Bronny was to bypass college basketball entirely and pursue a professional basketball pathway straight out of high school.

But now that he’s a Trojan, expect the name, image and likeness money to begin to roll in.

The On3 NIL Valuation is $7.4 million for him.
