State College runner earns gold medal at 2023 PIAA Track & Field Championships
State College’s Jesse Myers wrapped up a memorable sophomore year with a gold medal-winning record run at the PIAA Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg this weekend.
Myers ran the 200-meter dash in 21.23 to win the gold. He also set a school record, according to the State High track and field Twitter account.
Myers also finished second in the 400-meter dash and fourth in the 100-meter dash to help lead State College to second place in the AAA team rankings. They ended the weekend with 34 points, trailing only Chambersburg’s 48 points.
The squad also received contributions from: Nick Sloff, who finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run; Nathan Haas, who finished seventh in the discuss throw; and the 4x800 relay team of Henry Adams, Owen Vaira, Sam Viglione and Sloff, which finished third.
On the girls side, the State College 4x800 meter relay team of Marlee Kwasnica, Chloe Poindexter, Amy Devan and Grace Morningstar placed fourth.
Philipsburg-Osceola’s Chad Muckey had his best finish in the 3,200-meter run, where he finished 11th. Bellefonte had its best placement in the triple jump, where Zane Hummel finished 17th. Bald Eagle Area’s Abigail Hoover finished 16th in javelin throw, while Penns Valley’s Miles Brooks finished 11th in the triple jump.
Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy also sent a competitor, Colin Simander.
