Sunshine, clouds or thunder? Your weather forecast for Modesto and Northern California
Depending on your Memorial Day mood and where you want to spend the three-day weekend, the weather in Northern California will bring you sunshine, clouds or thunder.
Here’s what you can expect whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue or hitting the road:
Modesto
Coming off the heels of cooler-than-normal early May temperatures, then hotter-than-normal weather in the middle of the month, the three-day weekend forecast is expected to be on track with what’s average, according to Modesto Irrigation District records.
The records, which date back to 1939, show the average high temperature for May 26-May 29 is 82 to 83 degrees.
This weekend, Modesto residents can expect highs to be in the low 80s with lows in the mid 50s, according to the National Weather Service.
Northwest winds will breeze through the area around 6 to 10 mph Friday through Sunday, clearing before the holiday.
Camping in Tuolumne County?
Peak season for camping in Pinecrest begins this weekend, according to the Forest Service’s website. Other popular Tuolumne County campsites like Hull Creek, Fraser Flat and Strawberry are also open for Memorial Day on a first come, first served basis.
Weather in Tuolumne County is forecast to be in the mid 60s with lows in the mid 40s. There’s a chance of thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday, weather service meteorologist Sara Purdue said.
On Memorial Day, there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m.
By the beach and the Bay
Conditions by the water in the Bay Area and on the coast near Santa Cruz and Monterey will be cloudy, according to the weather service forecast.
Highs by the beach will be in the mid 60s with lows near 50. Temperatures in the bay are expected to be a few degrees cooler, in the low 60s with lows around 52 degrees.
