4 soldiers charged with Ukraine war crimes by US

Four Russia-affiliated soldiers were indicted on charges of war crimes in the Ukraine conflict for allegedly locking up and torturing a U.S. citizen after the invasion in February 2022, the Justice Department announced Wednesday. The charges are the first ever brought under a U.S. war crimes law. The defendants are charged with three war crimes – unlawful confinement, torture and inhumane treatment – and one count of conspiracy to commit war crimes. None of the men are in custody, but FBI Director Christopher Wray said the charges reflected international cooperation and demonstrated the government would hold war criminals accountable. 👉 What we know about the charges.

Taylor Swift is Time’s Person of the Year

She's in her Time Person of the Year era. Taylor Swift was named 2023's Time Person of the Year, giving the billionaire, business mogul, singer, songwriter, director, actress and producer another heavyweight accolade for her mantelpiece. "In a divided world, where too many institutions are failing, Taylor Swift found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light," Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs wrote. In the article, Swift talks with Time writer Sam Lansky from her New York City apartment about when she disappeared to an international rental in 2016 and hid for a year, her rerecorded albums taking off, her fitness training for her behemoth concert, her economic impact, her blockbuster movie and her relationship with Travis Kelce. ✨🎶 More from the Time article.

Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift dominated the charts this year.
