Sydney Sweeney Plus Black Bob Plus Blunt Bangs Was Not on My Met Gala Bingo Card

Sydney Sweeney is, as of this very moment, one of the world's most famous blondes. We've seen her play with the length of her hair (within the span of a few inches, at least), but it wasn't until the 2024 Met Gala that the star decided to mess with the color. And the cut … and the bangs.

Sweeney showed up to her third Met Gala in a Miu Miu gown, complete with falling floral details that pair beautifully with the night's “Garden of Time” theme. The dress, while radiant, fits with what we've come to know of Sweeney's fashion oeuvre. But the jet black bob and blunt bangs — and the latex gloves to match—hint at a whole new, bolder, and dare we say more badass side to the star.

Stylist Glen Oropeza confirms that the look is a wig, situated in place and styled for the night with Kerastase products. He created the flat, wavy texture with SUTRA Beauty’s Healthy Heat™ IR2 Infrared 1” Flat Iron “rotated back and forth”, then used his fingertips to apply Kerastase Elixir Ultime Original Oil for shine and Kerastase Laque Extreme hair spray to “lock waves in place”.

With so much going on in both the hair and dress departments, it's no surprise that Sweeney's makeup is far more toned-down — she's wearing a soft glam look with barely-there lip color and an XL-size swatch of blush on the cheekbones. The beauty prep started Monday morning, with a facial from Ivan Pol (aka “The Beauty Sandwich”), who used his SS01 Secret Sauce and SS02 Snatching Sauce. “We sandwiched the skincare with layers of Amuse Bouche in between product applications for long lasting hydration all evening,” Pol said. “We focused on her jawline to give it that chiseled effect and ended by spraying amuse bouche all over, including her arms, décolletage and neck to give her a gorgeous glow.”

From there, makeup artist Melissa Hernandez took over, using a suite of Laneige products to build Sweeney's so-dewy-it's-almost-sticky skin texture. “I pressed Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer onto the outer perimeter of Syd’s face with the palm of my hands,” Hernandez said. Then she locked in the hydration with Water Bank Blue Cream Moisturizer, and finished up with the classic Lip Sleeping Mask.

As for makeup, Hernandez's focus was on the cheeks.“The contrast between the black gloves and delicate blue tulle of Sydney’s custom Miu Miu gown inspired me to create a look that felt edgy, yet ethereal and feminine," she said. She used Armani Beauty Cheek Tint in Bold Pink to create, as she put it, “a romantic bubble-gum flush of color.” Sydney's exaggerated eyeliner comes courtesy of Armani Beauty Smooth Silk Eye Pencil, as well as Eyes to Kill Mascara.

After tonight, Sweeney will get to rip off that wig and go right back to her regularly scheduled long blonde hair. But maybe, just maybe, she'll have inspired a few other lifelong blondes to step into the dark side.
