Tarek El Moussa Reveals the Unexpected Thing That Happened During “Bad Decisions” Boat Day: ‘The Worst’
“Well….the seas were a little rough that day and almost everyone got seasick!” the HGTV star wrote on Instagram following his family excursion
When Tarek El Moussa enjoyed a day at sea with his children last week, it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
The Flipping El Moussas star, 42, shared in an Instagram post Tuesday that the ending to his recent boat day with Taylor, 13, and Brayden, 8, whom he shares with ex-wife Christina Hall, 40, was “a lot different” than he expected.
“Last week we saw a few hour break in the weather so myself, the TEM Capital team, and the kids took out the infamous ‘Bad Decisions,’” El Moussa wrote, referring to his vessel. “The kids wanted to go to Dana Point for lunch an hour away so up the coast we went.”
That’s when the excursion took a turn.
“Well….the seas were a little rough that day and almost everyone got seasick!” he continued. “It was Taylor’s first time getting seasick and she absolutely hated it! You’ll only know what I’m talking about if you’ve been seasick before, it’s the worst!”
The HGTV star’s wife, Heather El Moussa, commented, “Poor things,” adding, “but you all look cute.” The couple tied the knot in October 2021 and welcomed their first baby together, a son named Tristan, in February 2023.
Tarek shared a series of videos and photos to his Instagram Story on Sunday giving an inside look at the trip, which friends of the family also appeared to join.
“Little boat day here in Newport. Gorgeous out, if you like chilly weather,” he said in one clip while the boat moved through the water.

In another clip, Taylor walked away from the boat, as Tarek commented, “I spy a teenager. She hates when I record her.”
Tarek changed the boat’s name to Bad Decisions in 2017 after his divorce from Hall. Prior to that, it was named after the exes’ HGTV show, Flip or Flop.
In his memoir Flip Your Life, released last month, he described the dark period after the 2016 gun incident that led to the end of his marriage to Hall. He recalled hiding out on the same boat and drinking himself unconscious to cope with the collapse of his marriage.
Tarek also wrote about how quitting the anabolic testosterone he was prescribed in the aftermath of beating cancer twice combined with excessive drinking led him to be found “passed out” on his boat.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in January, the HGTV star said the weeks following the split were “physical and emotional hell” for him. He ended up checking into a rehab facility where he spent two months being treated for his testosterone addiction.

Despite those bad memories associated with the boat, it’s also the place where Tarek met Heather in 2019.
On the Fourth of July that year, Tarek was spending time on his boat with some friends in Newport Beach, Calif. when Heather hopped on after seeing a pal. Tarek then approached her and ended up asking her out.
