Taylor Hall beats Ben Bishop on penalty shot

Taylor Hall knows how to rev up a crowd and take care of business.

After being hauled down by Tampa Bay defenceman Matt Carle on a breakaway and drawing a penalty shot, the Oilers left-winger motioned with his hands to get the crowd of 16,839 at Rexall Place in Edmonton off its feet.

Then, with the fans roaring, the 22-year-old went one-on-one with Lightning goalie Ben Bishop. Hall went forehand-backhand and slid the puck through Bishop’s legs for a 2-1 Oilers lead.

Have a look at his moves:

“[Penalty shots are] not like a shootout when you can prepare a move,” Hall said between the second and third periods. “[Bishop] played a little deep in his net. I was not trying anything special there. I was just hoping it went in.”

It did, and Edmonton went on to a 3-2 victory, it’s first in six starts this season.

Hall has six points on the young season, including four goals, putting him on a pace for more than 50. The fifth-year Oiler matched his career high with 27 in 75 games last season.
