Taylor Swift has no plans to apologize for dating any controversial figures. The pop star released her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 18 and gave a scathing read of the critics who have passed judgement on her love life — primarily on her brief 2023 romance with The 1975 singer, Matty Healy — on "But Daddy I Love Him."

Swift comes out swinging on the first verse of the track, singing, "Sarahs and Hannahs in their Sunday best / Clutchin' their pearls, sighing, "What a mess" / I just learned these people try and save you / 'Cause they hate you."

Despite the subject matter, the pop star also takes a much needed moment on the chorus of the song to lets her sense of humor shine through: "I'm runnin' with my dress unbuttoned / Screamin', "But, daddy, I love him / I'm havin' his baby" / No, I'm not, but you should see your faces."

Swift gets serious again about her reputation in the song's post-chorus and bridge, noting that the way people view her is entirely in her own hands. As for the people who judged her for dating Healy, Swift considers all the talk people did begging to break up with him was a waste of their time.

“I’ll tell you something about my good name / It’s mine alone to disgrace / I don’t cater to all these vipers dressed in empath’s clothing,” she sings. “God save the most judgmental creeps / Who say they want what’s best for me / Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see / Thinking it can change the beat of my heart when he touches me / And counteract the chemistry.”

Elsewhere onThe Tortured Poets Department, Swift seemingly talks about getting ghosted by Healy on "Down Bad" and his incendiary opinions, which have been deemed racist by a subset of her fans. "I loved your hostile take-overs," she sings, later adding, "How dare you think it's romantic / Leaving me safe and stranded?" Meanwhile on "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)," Swift knows people think she's unwell for dating someone that is considered a bad boy, but she's up for the challenge of reforming him into someone worthy of praise.

Healy isn't the only person that is referenced to on The Tortured Poets Department — Kim Kardashian, Joe Alwyn and Travis Kelce seemingly received mentions on "thanK you aIMee," "Florida!!!," "The Alchemist" and "So High School" respectively.
