Woman suffers critical head injury after being struck by car, paramedics say

A young Ottawa woman is being treated for life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a car in the city's west end, paramedics say.

The woman was crossing Moodie Drive south of Carling Avenue on foot, heading toward an OC Transpo bus stop, when she was hit by a car around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, according to paramedics. She was not crossing at a controlled intersection, paramedics said.

The driver of the car was also taken to hospital and treated for shock, paramedics said.

Police are asking witnesses to come forward in the case.

Earlier on Friday, a 75-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by an SUV on Bank Street. He was charged with failing to use a crosswalk.

Also on Friday morning, two young women were killed in a collision between a car and a dump truck near Manotick. Police said roads were icy in the Manotick area Friday morning.

There's no word yet on whether road conditions played a role in the Friday afternoon collision on Moodie Drive.
