Terry Marriott Sr., Halifax crime figure, sentenced to 4 years in jail

Terry Marriott Sr., a longtime crime figure in Halifax, has been sentenced to four years in prison on one count of possession for the purpose of drug trafficking.

The 66-year-old, who was arrested on July 31 in his Spryfield apartment along with his girlfriend and two 17-year-olds, will spend three years and 323 days in a federal facility. He also received a 10-year firearms prohibition.

Police say officers seized cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the apartment.

Marriott has spent over half of his life in jail. He was sentenced to two years in prison in 2012 for cocaine trafficking and has a criminal history dating back to 1966, including a dozen drug offences.

His son, Terry Marriott Jr., was shot and killed in 2009 at a house in Harrietsfield. Jimmy Melvin Jr. has been charged with first degree murder in his death.
