The most Canadian robbery ever? Hockey goalie steals cases of beer from store

RCMP in Manitoba posted a video to YouTube of two men committing a robbery and the disguises the thieves decided to wear will probably land them in the penalty box if they’re ever caught.

One suspect wore mitts, a large coat and had his face covered and the other, was dressed as a hockey goalie complete with a stick.

According to the RCMP, the thieves entered the store around 3 a.m on Aug. 15 in the community of Russell. Video surveillance shows the two thieves climbing through the shattered glass door, making their way to the coolers and then making off with cases of beer.

The man dressed in goalie equipment runs off with two cases in his hands and the hockey stick tightly secured under his arm meanwhile, his partner in crime runs off with one case.

While the mounties are serious about catching the thieves and asking the public for help in identifying them, they also caught onto the humor of the robbery. The RCMP described the man in the goalie equipment as a “defenceman or forward in disguise” because he was wearing number 17 “a non-traditional number for goalies.”

The only way this robbery could get more Canadian as one YouTube user points out is if the thieves “left a letter saying ‘I’m sorry’ at the cash register.”

The thief maybe “#17 in your program” but he is “#1 on the Russell Manitoba RCMP wanted list.”
