It’s time for a spring clean, Callander

It’s time to come clean, Callander.

The annual spring Drop Off and Pitch-In Day returns, a day for Callander residents to rid themselves of their garbage burdens and help beautify the town as well by picking up some litter within the parks and along the streets.

Volunteers can head down to Centennial Park on Saturday, May 4th between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to get the cleaning party started. Once there, garbage bags will be provided and from there, you and yours can hunt the litter and beautify the town.

“We look forward to the spring clean up every year,” said Mayor Robb Noon, “and it’s very popular with the residents.”

Residents can also drop off garbage at the Operations Yard at 100 Nipissing Street on May 4th, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Metals, mixed waste, mattresses, batteries, and electronics can be left. However, the town will not accept any household appliance, so leave the fridges, dehumidifiers, or air conditioners for the Merrick Landfill.

Mixed waste, carpets, toilets, sinks, shower stalls, and non-commercial construction debris can be brought to the yard. As can heavy yard waste. No commercial garbage is allowed. On site will be an open top trailer dedicated for mattresses, and another meant for tires.

No shingles, concrete, stones, or gravel, the municipality clarified, and you must be a Callander resident to drop off.

As for those pitching in to clean the parks and roadways, the Municipality reminds you to take a photo of your haul, post it to social media with the hashtag #PitchInEvent2024. If so, you’ll be entered for a chance to win one of three $50 gift cards from Foodland.

“Both initiatives keep the municipality clean and the drop off at the Operations Yard helps prevent illegal dumping as well,” Mayor Noon said. “It’s really helpful with that aspect within the municipality.”
