Timothée Chalamet Wants Austin Butler's Elvis to Be in His Bob Dylan Movie: 'Musical Cinematic Universe'
"I wish I could be on set every day to just watch the magic happen," Austin Butler says of Timothée Chalamet's upcoming Bob Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown'
Timothée Chalamet is angling to mash his upcoming Bob Dylan movie together with Austin Butler's Elvis Presley portrayal.
In a recent interview with NME while promoting Dune: Part Two, the actors were asked about bringing two 20th century music icons' lives to the big screen: Butler, 32, starred as the late Presley in 2022's Elvis, while Chalamet, 28, is expected to begin shooting a movie focused on folk rock icon Dylan soon.
"I've been picking Austin's brain non-stop, but I feel — let's let my film come out before I'm so lucky as to get included with Austin, he did such a phenomenal job," Chalamet told the outlet, when asked whether he and Butler have spoken about portraying legendary musicians. "But I do feel prideful about that too, because those are two artists that — I can't speak from Elvis' perspective, but deep in the Bob Dylan lore now, he had tremendous respect for Elvis and Sun Records."
"Timothée works so hard, and it's just so cool to get to discuss process and talk through things. I can't wait for that film," Butler added. "I wish I could be on set every day to just watch the magic happen."
In response, Chalamet noted that he wished Butler could appear in his movie, titled A Complete Unknown, as Elvis himself. "There is an Elvis character in the Johnny Cash biopic [Walk the Line] — it's really brief, it's very brief," he said. "But I was kind of wishing we could create a musical cinematic universe."

Butler received his first career Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Presley, though last year's Best Actor award ultimately went to Brendan Fraser for The Whale. Elvis followed Presley's career from his initial breakthrough in the 1950s through his death in 1977. Dylan, whom Chalamet will soon play in A Complete Unknown, began his career in the early 1960s after Presley's initial success influenced rock music that followed.

Chalamet has been linked to a Dylan-centric movie since 2020. Deadline reported in January that A Complete Unknown, which draws its title from the lyrics of the 82-year-old's 1965 song "Like a Rolling Stone," is scheduled to begin filming in New York in March.
Back in January, Chalamet made an appearance at Hibbing High School, Dylan's alma mater in Hibbing Minnesota, to visit the school's theater students while he was in the area conducting research on the legendary musician.
"In town researching all things Bob Dylan for an upcoming biopic, he asked his tour guide if he could meet with the drama students who were working on their competition one act," the Hibbing High School drama department wrote in a series of posts on Facebook of Chalamet's visit. "He sat down with them one on one, and talked acting and theater."
