Too big? A restaurant closes in Fort Worth across from a coming H-E-B in Alliance

Tap In Grill & Pub of Grapevine has closed a much larger second location in Alliance Town Center, marking the loss of a locally owned restaurant in a shopping district heavy with national chains.

The new expansion of a small Grapevine pub was praised when it opened at 3351 Texas Sage Trail, a dauntingly large anchor space across Heritage Trace Parkway from a coming H-E-B supermarket.

Tap In opened in a 7,000-square-foot space that had been closed four years. It was originally built in 2014 for a Seattle-area pizza chain with an oldies-rock theme, The Rock.

But the immediate Alliance area alone now has about 40 restaurants. Next to open is a location of Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos, coming in June at 3330 Tracewood Way.

That total doesn’t count the Dallas-based Truck Yard, 3101 Prairie Vista Drive, an intensely crowded patio and bar with food trucks.

The original Tap In Grill & Pub remains open for lunch and dinner daily at 120 S. Main St., Grapevine.
