When we look back on 2022, the biggest hero in the movies didn't wear a cape or fly through space or cast spells with his hands. Instead, it was good ol' Tom Cruise flying through the air into that dreaded danger zone one more time. Top Gun: Maverick made nearly $1.5 billion at the box office and if you somehow missed out on the fun or want to experience the rush again, you can do it at Paramount+ right now!

What is Top Gun: Maverick about?

Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Cruise) has been in Navy for over 30 years, testing the fastest planes on the planet without any sign of him slowing down. When his latest supersonic flight gets him in hot water with his superiors (Ed Harris), he's sent back to the Top Gun training academy to get a new batch of cocky aviators ready for a dangerous bombing run in enemy territory. One of those young guns is Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick's old wingman "Goose" who died while the two were mid-flight. While dealing with the watchful eye of other naval officers (Jon Hamm) and wondering if he should risk the son of his old buddy going into certain death, Maverick reconnects with an old flame (Jennifer Connelly) and tries to prove himself as the best pilot in the sky after so many years.

The original Top Gun was a big hit in 1986 under the direction of the late Tony Scott (True RomanceMan on FireUnstoppable) and was one of the first big hits in the 41-year career of Cruise. Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: LegacyOnly the Brave), who previously worked with Cruise on the 2014 sci-fi adventure Oblivion. Release back in May of this year, Maverick has gone on to make over $1.48 billion worldwide and become the 11th highest-grossing movie of all time (beating Frozen II but just under Furious 7).
