Environment Canada prepares to weather Pan Am Games

Here's what you need to know on Thursday, April 30.

Warmer weather

Temperatures will dip slightly today from yesterday, with a high of 17 C expected. There is a 30 per cent chance of showers this afternoon.

Friday is shaping up to be 21 C with a mix of sun and cloud.

Transit

The elevator at Dundas West Station's eastbound platform from the concourse to the bus level is out of service this morning, according to the TTC.

People wanting to take the 95 York Mills to or from the Scarsdale westbound stop have to use the Lesmill or Leslie stops this morning due to construction.

An earlier signal problem on GO Transit's Lake Shore East line temporarily disrupted service between Whitby and Oshawa but it has since been resolved and trains are running on regular schedules.

Toronto Pearson airport and Billy Bishop airport downtown are reporting that air traffic is moving on time. ​

Ombudsman investigation

The city's ombudsman Fiona Crean will be releasing a report today examining security at city hall during Coun. Rob Ford's tenure as mayor. The report will be online at 9 a.m. ET.

Youth unemployment

Mayor John Tory is expected to provide an update this morning on what Toronto is doing to tackle youth unemployment in the city. Tory will also join a host of young job searchers who will be given the opportunity to interview with some of the city's top employers and also have professional help in drafting their work resumes.

Water to Nepal

Toronto-based aid group Global Medic will be preparing household water purification units to be flown to Kathmandu to help in the wake of the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that killed thousands of people and injured tens of thousands more on April 25. The units will be packed up and shipped to aircraft this afternoon to be flown to Nepal immediately.

NBA MVP

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday that Canadian Andrew Wiggins, from Vaughn, will be named the NBA's rookie of the year today.
