Every generation needs a hero, and in 2017, a new figure has emerged to bravely take a stand and stop at nothing until his quest completed.

Even if this Canadian-made mission is a bit of an odd one.

A Toronto man says he will eat a picture of actor Jason Segel, the star of films such as The Muppets and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, every single day until the 37-year-old American returns the favour.

That’s the bizarre goal of 19-year-old Toronto comedian Noah Maloney. On Feb 16, he declared he would start his absurd campaign to eat a printed photo of the Hollywood actor’s face until Segel eats a picture of Maloney’s face. He even uploaded the image he wants eaten by Segel onto Imgur, which has received more than 160,000 views in just six days.

True to his word, Maloney posted a video on his YouTube channel showing him wordlessly ripping up and consuming a picture of Segel’s headshot between sips of water. The video ends with Maloney looking into the camera, addressing the star directly by saying “Hey Jason” and displaying the hashtag #EatMyFaceSegel.

Oddly enough, it looks like Maloney’s head-scratching mission is picking up steam. The original video has already been viewed more than 575,000 times since being uploaded online and it has even attracted the attention of the actor’s sister, Ali Segel, on Twitter.

Although there has been no response from Segel as of yet, that hasn’t stopped Maloney from posting a video of himself each and every day faithfully consuming the actor’s likeness for the world to enjoy. One video even appears to show Maloney receiving a tattoo of Segel’s name on his leg before once again tearing into the star’s face.

With six videos posted as of Feb. 22, this daily challenge has gone viral. But why anyone would decide to do any of this in the first place?

Speaking to Munchies, Maloney explains that he and his friends “just like to make stupid videos and this is what happened. We thought it would only be for our friends’ enjoyment.”

He also clarifies that as ridiculous as his campaign may seem, he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon he’s in it for the long haul. That’s despite concerns some may have for what all that paper and ink may be doing to his body.

“We have subsidized health care in Canada. My well-being is irrelevant to the situation,” he tells Munchies.

“I think it will happen,” Maloney adds. “I will not stop until he eats a picture of me. If I die, it’s on his hands.”
