Photos: Amid scorching heatwave, some European tourist destinations like you've never seen them — deserted

As a heatwave continues to scorch residents and tourists across Europe during peak travel months, some iconic destinations had to close for safety reasons.

Greece shut down the Acropolis Hill ruins for several hours on July 4 as temperatures hit a high of 38 Celsius. More than 4,000 schools across France have closed in the last week as meteorologists noted that the mercury hit 45 Celsius last Friday.

Would you brave the heat for a European vacation?
