Township of Wilmot launches engagement for 2024-2027 strategic plan

The Township of Wilmot is launching the development of a new strategic plan that will serve the community and provide Wilmot council with tools for decision-making from 2024-2027.

The township is seeking community input into it, allowing stakeholders to help shape future programs, services and township planning. Wilmot has hired Linton Consulting to work with the corporate leadership team, council, internal and external stakeholders to develop the plan over the coming months. Kelly Linton, a partner with the company, said the township is looking forward to the process.

“We are very excited to work with the Township of Wilmot. There is a lot of passion on council and in the community for planning the future of the township. I am confident that collaboration will result in a very successful strategic-planning process and positive outcomes for Wilmot.”

Township CAO Sharon Chambers said the growth of Wilmot makes the strategic planning process that much more important.

“As we prepare for significant growth over the next decade and beyond, council and staff are committed to planning strategically for our future. The 2024-2027 plan will set priorities and guide us in our decision-making to ensure that we build a community that meets the needs of residents and businesses. We value input from our community as we chart this exciting path forward.”

The planning and implementation of a plan was delayed during the pandemic, but Coun. Steven Martin said he’s ready to go to work on it.

“We want to come together and see what we can work on that are important projects for the next two and a half years.”

Staff and members of council kicked off the plan’s first stage at an informal meeting last week. Salonen said hearing from residents will play an important role.

“The plan is part of the Municipal Act and it is one of the important things council is supposed to do. I am looking forward to going through the process and really rechecking where we are. I think with the two-year gap since the election it’s a great time to consult with residents and see if priorities have shifted.”
