Traffic alert: Barge hits a Florida Keys bridge along U.S. 1, sheriff’s office says

A barge hit a bridge in the Florida Keys along U.S. 1 late Wednesday afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said in an online alert that the vessel struck the Vaca Cut Bridge, a small span in the northern part of the Middle Keys city of Marathon, shortly before 5 p.m.

Southbound traffic was initially diverted to the northbound lanes of the bridge, but all lanes were open by 7 p.m.
