1 hospitalized after Palmetto eight-car pileup near Hialeah, Miami-Dade paramedics say

A person was taken to the hospital after an eight-car pileup on the Palmetto Expressway shut down all northbound lanes, causing heavy delays during Thursday morning’s rush hour, according to authorities.

The crash near Hialeah happened around 6:15 a.m. before U.S. 27 (Okeechobee Road).

Only minor injuries were reported, said Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Alex Camacho. One person was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

At about 8:30 a.m., two out of six lanes on the Palmetto (State Road 826) that remained closed were reopened.

A separate crash had shut down two left lanes on the Palmetto near the Hialeah Expressway (State Road 934).

Traffic was backed up for miles, almost reaching the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836).
