Train in Ray County kills 1-year-old girl on railway tracks, MSHP report says

A train struck and killed a 1-year-old girl on Saturday morning in Ray County, according to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Officers were called to the crash, which occurred at 8:48 a.m., near the railroad by Elm Street in Hardin, Missouri, about 50 miles east of Kansas City.

An investigation determined a BNSF 2009 GE train was heading east at the time of the incident. The child was stationary on the tracks when the train hit.

The Ray County Sheriff’s Office said multiple agencies helped in the initial investigation, according to a statement that Sheriff Scott Childers released over social media.

“We ask you pray for all affected by today’s event and respect their privacy,” Childers said Saturday afternoon.

The office will not be making any further statements at this time, he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
