With travel becoming increasingly in demand, and costly, coveted "travel hacks" are often appreciated, but do they actually work?

The most popular "hacks" are often around the best time to book a trip and the best days to depart to get the best deal, and now travel-related search platform Skyscanner is crunching the numbers with its Skyscanner's 2023 Savings Generator.

Using global pricing data, travellers in Canada, and beyond, can now find out how much money they'll actually save when booking a trip.

“Most people aren’t aware of some of the simple tips and travel hacks that could open up vast savings for them, which is now more important than ever," a statement from Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner's destination expert reads.

“When searching for the right price, we know how powerful being informed is."

What is the cheapest day to travel out of Canada?

According to Skyscanner, Canadians save an average of $310 per passenger when booking a flight 23 weeks ahead, all year round. Saturday is the cheapest day of the week to travel from Canadian departure cities.

Skyscanner's savings data allows travellers to compare the average price for a particular flight route, the cheapest and most expensive days to fly to a destination, and the best time to book a flight, based on historical average pricing.

For example, if you're looking to travel to Paris in June and travel on a Sunday, you should book your flight 20 weeks in advance to get the best deal. Or if you want to travel to New York on a Monday in June, you should book your flight 21 weeks in advance for the best deal.

Using the savings generator (getting even more specific), if you want to travel to Cancun, Mexico in March, leaving from Toronto, the generator shows that this specific route is best to book 49 weeks ahead, with an average savings of $326, and the cheapest day of the week to travel is Tuesday.
