Travis Kelce describes his reaction to Taylor Swift’s ‘Karma’ lyric change
Travis Kelce said he was “shocked” when he heard Taylor Swift change the original lyrics to her song “Karma” at her concert Saturday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Fan videos captured Kelce’s endearingly stunned reaction when instead of singing “Karma is the guy on the screen” — a nod to her now-ex, actor Joe Alwyn — she crooned “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs.”
“I might’ve had a little bit of a clue, but definitely when I heard it come out of her mouth, [it] still shocked me,” Kelce said Wednesday on his podcast “New Heights.” “I was like oh shhh she really just said that.”
Kelce, 34, was standing next to Swift’s dad, Scott, at the show. His brother, Jason, mocked him on the podcast for leaving Scott hanging on a high five following the new lyric.
“Mr. Swift, I apologize big guy,” Travis Kelce said. “I never miss a high five, too, big high five guy. It’s the most electric thing you can do at an event.”
Kelce met the elder Swift for the first time on Friday night in Buenos Aires. The group had dinner after that night’s concert was postponed due to thunderstorms, which Jason Kelce described as “a labyrinth of issues.”
Saturday’s show in Buenos Aires was Kelce’s first chance to see the Eras Tour since he and Swift started dating earlier this year. The Kansas City Chiefs’ bye week allowed him to continue their love story on his first-ever trip south of the equator.
“The show was even more electric knowing that I had a little bit more to enjoy it for,” he said Wednesday. “It was a whole bunch of fun.”
The Eras Tour is scheduled to continue next week in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The Kelce brothers, meanwhile, will square off on Monday Night Football when Travis’ Chiefs play Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles.
