Travis Kelce’s message to Chiefs’ Chris Jones: ‘Please, we need you. We need you bad’

We’ve heard the football-is-a-business reactions from Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and Brett Veach when it comes to the Chris Jones holdout.

Travis Kelce spoke from the heart in a lighthearted exchange with his brother, Jason, on their “New Heights” podcast. Jason even prefaced the question by asking, “Do you want to talk about it?”

Travis did.

“Ah, man, Chris. Can you please come back? You’re really scaring me, man.

“I don’t get it. You must know something that I don’t know. I just don’t get it.

“I really want to get another Super Bowl ring with you brother.

“This is me just bargaining with you to just come back and play football for the Chiefs.

“Please, we need you.

“We need you bad.”

With those sentiments, Travis Kelce echoed many Chiefs fans who just want the holdout to end. Jones, seeking an extension as he enters the final year of his contract, missed organized team activities and the preseason, which could jeopardize his chances to play in Game 1.

Veach, the Chiefs’ general manager, said earlier this week that he was “hopeful” a deal would happen soon and that Jones could be back in time for the opener on Thursday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.

Jason Kelce stepped in to play devil’s advocate for a selfish reason (at least partly in jest).

“This situation is you’re not paying him enough and I think you should hold off as long as possible,” Jason said. “Especially past, when do we play? Week 10? Especially past Week 10.”

Travis’ Chiefs play host to Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch on Week 11 in Kansas City.

“He’s the best defensive player in the league right now,” Travis Kelce said. “And he’s deserving of all the money in the world, and hopefully we get this thing fixed before the season starts.”
