Travis Kelce praises Taylor Swift for visit to Chiefs game, shares what his mom thought
At the start of the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce noted there likely would be some new listeners this week.
That’s a fair assumption since there was a special visitor Sunday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to see the Chiefs’ 41-10 win over the Bears.
Superstar singer Taylor Swift accepted Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s invitation to see him play a game, and well, things went beyond viral.
Kelce talked about Swift, paparazzi and the future on the podcast.
How life has changed
“I might’ve noticed a few things, like paparazzi outside of my house. For sure, 100% and they all have British accents or something European,” Kelce said.
His brother, Jason Kelce, the podcast co-host asked how he knew it was the paparazzi.
“They have a camera in their hands,” Kelce quipped, “and they’re screaming my name.”
Praise for Taylor Swift
Kelce said he loved seeing the video of Swift’s reaction to his touchdown, and praised her for making the trip to see him play. He also loved seeing how she interacted with others in his suite at Arrowhead, including his mother, Donna.
“Shout out to Taylor for pulling up. That was pretty ballsy,” Kelce said. “I just thought it was awesome how everyone in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her. The friends and family. She looked amazing, everybody was talking about her in a great light. On top of that, the day went perfect for Chiefs fans of course. We script it all, ladies and gentlemen. It was just impressive, impressive.
“To see the slow motion chest bumps, to see the high fives with mom, to see how the Chiefs Kingdom was all excited she was there, that (stuff) was absolutely hysterical. It was definitely a game I’ll remember, that’s for damn sure. And then we just slid off in the getaway car in the end. Took my (Chevy) Chevelle to the game. You already know, having fun flying around breaking all the speed limits with that thing.
“Shout out to Taylor for coming through and seeing me rock the stage.”
Andy Reid is cupid?
Kelce noted that the reaction to Swift’s visit was unlike anything he’s ever seen. Even Patriots coach Bill Belichick weighed in on Kelce.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid joked after Sunday’s game that he had set up the duo.
Kelce noted that his coach had met Swift’s family when Reid was working in Philadelphia.
“Who knows he might have been in the background the whole time, man? Shout to coach Reid,” Kelce said.
He added: “Who knew Cupid was so big?”
The future
The podcast episode might be the last time Kelce talks about his relationship with Swift.
“I know that I brought all this attention to me, I’m the one that did the whole friendship bracelet thing and told everybody how butthurt I was that I didn’t get to meet Taylor,” Kelce said. “You miss 100% (of the shots) you don’t take, baby.
“What’s real is that it is my personal life. I want to respect both of our lives. She’s not in the media as much as I am, doing this show every single week and having fun during the NFL season doing other guys’ shows like the (Pat) McAfee show and any other show I go on from here on out.”
Jason Kelce said he’s enjoyed every second of it.
“Like you said on that Thursday night game, I’m enjoying life and I sure as hell enjoyed this weekend,” Travis Kelce said. “So everything moving forward, I think me talking about sports and saying ‘alright now’ will have to be kind of where I keep it.”
