Former President Donald Trump is expected to make a preliminary appearance and a plea in a federal court in Miami Tuesday. Also in the news: Student loan repayments will reactivate at the end of the summer and the Denver Nuggets scored a historic first-ever victory in the NBA Finals.

Trump to be arraigned in federal court in Miami
Donald Trump will make his initial court appearance Tuesday as the first former president to be criminally indicted after flying from New Jersey to Florida, continuing to fundraise off the accusations and blasting the rival Biden administration for what he calls a political prosecution. Trump, who is expected to plead not guilty, is charged with allegedly stashing more than 300 classified documents after leaving the White House in January 2021. He is accused of not just storing and hiding the documents, but showing them to guests at Bedminster, according to the 44-page indictment unsealed Friday. Read more
Your student loan pause is over
About 45 million Americans may have to pare back end-of-summer travel this year because interest starts accruing again on federal student loans on September 1, and they'll have to be financially ready to start repaying.
The first payments on student loans in more than three years will be due in October, according to an Education Department spokesperson.
Why this is happening: In exchange for a raised debt ceiling about 10 days ago, the Biden administration agreed, among other things, that it wouldn’t renege on the “final” pause like it did last year.
Loan servicers have warned that budget cuts at the Department of Education mean fewer servicers working fewer hours to help people coming off a fifth consecutive payment pause.
Be proactive: Contact your loan servicer now before repayments resume to find out what your interest rate is, confirm personal information, loan amounts and payment plans.

Commuters face travel chaos after I-95 collapse
Interstate 95 will remain closed in both directions for weeks after after a tractor-trailer hauling gasoline flipped on an I-95 off-ramp in Philadelphia, triggering a fire that caused a portion of the major interstate to collapse over the weekend. Pennsylvania State Police said a body recovered from the wreckage was turned over to the Philadelphia medical examiner and coroner and authorities are in the process of identifying the remains. Gov. Josh Shapiro issued a disaster declaration Monday that makes $7 million of state funds immediately available for reconstruction efforts. Read more

NATO leader: Ukraine 'gaining ground' against Russia
Ukrainian soldiers are "gaining ground," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told USA TODAY, retaking seven small towns and villages from Russian troops. His comments are among the first on the record by a Western leader on the initial success of Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian leaders have also announced similar gains. While it's too soon to predict the outcome against Russia's dug-in defenses, and the early battles may suggest that the tens of billions invested by the U.S.-led coalition in equipping and training Ukrainian forces with Western weapons and how to use them is paying off. Denver Nuggets win first NBA championship
For the first time in franchise history, the Denver Nuggets are NBA champions. The Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat, 94-89, to clinch the best-of-seven series 4-1 and win the NBA Finals. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic had a game-high 28 points and 16 rebounds in the win. The gritty Heat led for most of the game, but the Nuggets fought back in the third quarter and only trailed 71-70 entering the fourth quarter. Denver and Miami traded blows in the final quarter, but the Nuggets were able to get timely stops down the stretch and made clutch free throws to seal the game and win their first ever NBA title.
