Try one of these free or cheap Kansas City yoga classes this weekend, or all summer

If you are interested in giving sun salutations or celebrating the International Day of Yoga later this month, Kansas City has a lot of free and low-cost events to check out for beginners and regular practitioners.

Yoga is a great way to manage stress, strengthen your body and flexibility and in some cases, it can be an opportunity to build community, according to John Hopkins Medicine.

Here’s a look at upcoming yoga sessions that are free or under $20.

Yoga in the Park KC

Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

Free

This weekly yoga session is free to the public. Aspiring yogis should bring their own mat or towel and are encouraged to bring a friend. The group migrates to different spots on the Nelson Atkins lawn each week, so try to arrive early so you can take your time to find the group. You can find the lawn at 4525 Oak St.

International Day of Yoga

June 25 at 7:00 a.m.

Free

Hosted by The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh of Kansas City, this International Day of Yoga celebration is free and open to the public. The session will start at 7:00 a.m. at Harmony Middle School at 10101 W 141st St. in Overland Park and run until 9:00 a.m.

Meditation in Hindi

June 25 at 10:00 a.m.

This virtual meditation is hosted by Sahaja Yoga Meditation and will include a yoga session, and guided meditation spoken in Hindi and classical Indian music. Guests can register for the free online event by visiting here.

Yoga by the River

Sundays at 11:30 a.m.

This waterfront yoga session takes place every Sunday at ArtGarden KC near the Berkeley Riverfront. Yoga mats are provided.

Black Women Get Fit

June 24 at 8:15 a.m.

This free event will include multiple fitness workshops, including a free yoga session. The event is hosted by The Nia Project, which is a local organization that champions the success of Black women and girls in Kansas City. Black Women Get Fit will be held at the Boys and Girls Club at 1240 Troupe in Kansas City, Kansas. Pre-registration is required and doors open at 8:15 a.m.

Yoga Sip N Shop

June 24 at 4:00 p.m.

This yoga experience will be held at The Duffle Brand store at 323 East Gregory Blvd. Guests are encouraged to have a glass of wine and shop around after or before their yoga and stretch session.

Kids Yoga at Full Circle Yoga KC

June 24 at 2 p.m.

Full Circle Yoga KC Studio hosts regular yoga sessions for kids to help them develop stronger mind and body connections. These 90-minute sessions start at $15 per session but there is a $3 sibling discount. These sessions are for children that are kindergarten through fifth grade. Full Circle Yoga also hosts drop-in sessions for adults that start at $18 and unlimited monthly passes that start at $70. Full Circle Yoga is at 4327 Troost Ave.

Goat Yoga in Overland Park

June 27 at 5:30 p.m.

If you’re feeling adventurous, Deanna Rose Family Farmstead is hosting a goat yoga session where yogis can practice alongside baby goats for $30 per session. Participants must be 12 years or older to join in on the fun and minors must be accompanied by an adult. The farmstead is located at 13800 Switzer Road in Overland Park. To register visit here.

Yoga at the Zoo - Goats

July 11 at 6:30 p.m.

If you are afraid of goats, you should still check out this unique goat yoga experience. The session will happen in front of the goat habitat at the Kansas City Zoo. All participants need is their own mat or towel and a water bottle if needed. Proceeds from the event will go towards conservation efforts. To register visit here.
