Two Mariposa High boys basketball players arrested, charged with sex crimes, sheriff says

Two Mariposa High School boys basketball players have been arrested and are facing multiple charges of sex crimes, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.

Mariposa head basketball coach Pierce Chaney has also been arrested and is charged with felony child abuse and misdemeanor failure to report as a mandated reporter, according to a Facebook post by the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office. Chaney has not been charged with any sex crimes.

The names of the two players arrested are being withheld because they are juveniles.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office announced it’s currently investigating a serious criminal case between multiple student’s on the school’s basketball team.

“We continue working closely with the Mariposa County School District to ensure student safety and protect the victims and witnesses involved,” the sheriff’s office stated in the Facebook post. “This is still an active case as we continue to investigate.”
