UK basketball announces jersey numbers for next season. See the number each Wildcat will wear.

With the Kentucky men’s basketball roster for next season in much better shape now than it was only a few days ago, the Wildcats have announced jersey numbers for next season.

Currently, there are 15 players on the UK team for the 2023-24 season, highlighted by a top-ranked recruiting class and the return of fifth-year guard Antonio Reeves.

Some things of note in Wednesday afternoon’s jersey number announcement?

Freshman guard Reed Sheppard — one of the most highly-touted in-state recruits in recent Kentucky history — will follow in his father Jeff’s footsteps by wearing No. 15 for the Wildcats. Of course, Jeff won two national championships while playing for UK in 1996 and 1998.

Wednesday’s announcement was also a clear sign that Grant Darbyshire, Walker Horn and Kareem Watkins will be reprising their roles as walk-on players from a season ago. Fifth-year guard Brennan Canada is also back for a final season at Kentucky, but he was placed on scholarship midway through last season.

Also, the fact that Antonio Reeves was included in the jersey announcement news is clear confirmation from UK that he will be back for a second season in Lexington.

Any Kentucky fans expecting to see Somto Cyril suit up for the Cats next season will likely have to wait a bit longer.

The class of 2024 Nigerian center — who plays in the Overtime Elite league in Atlanta — committed to the Wildcats just a few minutes after UK’s jersey announcement Wednesday afternoon.

And despite strong speculation that Cyril could enroll a year ahead of schedule at Kentucky, it seems likely Cyril will remain in the 2024 recruiting class.

Below is a complete listing of each UK men’s basketball player for next season, and the jersey number they’ll wear.

Recent NCAA rule changes now allow college basketball players to wear any number between 0 to 99 for the first time.

You won’t see any Kentucky Wildcats taking advantage of this numerical expansion, though.

Adou Thiero, Antonio Reeves, Grant Darbyshire, Brennan Canada, Kareem Watkins and Ugonna Onyenso are all wearing their same numbers from a season ago.

Incoming transfer Tre Mitchell previously wore No. 33 at UMass and Texas and No. 3 at West Virginia. He will now switch to No. 4 with both of those numbers already taken by Thiero and Onyenso.
