Undefeated Richland Bombers in 1st place in MCC football with a big matchup next
It maybe not have been as big a performance as the previous week’s, but Richland senior quarterback Josh Woodard keeps piling up the offensive numbers in leading the Bombers to a 3-0 start to the Mid-Columbia Conference football season.
On Friday night, Woodard passed for three touchdowns and ran for another, as Richland defeated host Hanford 41-13 at Fran Rish Stadium.
Woodard — who threw for seven TD passes and ran for another against Hermiston the previous week — was 20 for 26 for 212 yards against the Falcons this time around.
John Simons added 19 carries for 80 yards rushing for the Bombers, who currently sit alone atop the MCC standings.
Teammate Rayce Reeves added 6 receptions for 75 yards and two TDs.
Defensively, Zach Rose had an interception and recovered a fumble for the Bombers.
For Hanford, Preston Bryant caught 6 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons.
The Bombers play host to Chiawana at 7 p.m. Thursday in a key MCC contest. On Friday, Kamiakin and Kennewick meet at 7 p.m. at Lampson Stadium in another big game.
CHIAWANA 52, PASCO 10
The visiting Riverhawks one another Gravel Pit Bowl game at Edgar Brown Stadium.
While the Chiawana defensive unit contained Pasco’s offense, Riverhawks senior DJ Duran broke out by passing for 311 yards and 4 touchdown passes.
Duran completed 19 of 29 passes.
Meanwhile, his main target was Rylan Blair, who caught 7 passes for 140 yards and a score. Hunter Taylor added 106 yards rushing on 19 carries, scoring a touchdown.
On defense, Cooper MacPherson led Chiawana with 11 tackles (2 for loss), had a quarterback sack, and intercepted a pass he returned for a touchdown.
HERMISTON 49, WALLA WALLA 14
Ben Larsen got loose for three rushing touchdowns — including one for 71 yards — to lead the visiting Bulldogs to the MCC win at Walla Walla at Borleske Stadium.
Larsen finished the game with 165 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Hermiston, now 2-1, was also led by junior quarterback Issac Corey, who was 28 for 37 for 323 yards passing and three TD passes.
Jaime Ramirez-Ortega was Corey’s top receiver, catching 9 passes for 126 yards.
Altogether, the Bulldogs ran up 546 yards of total offense.
QB Rayden Reibel led the Blue Devils with 126 yards passing, going 17 for 35 and tossing one TD pass.
KAMIAKIN 50, SOUTHRIDGE 14
The Braves beat their crosstown rivals by rolling up 515 total yards of offense.
Leading the way was running back Makram Altahir, who rushed for 159 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns on the ground.
Junior quarterback Trent Woodhouse added 206 yards passing on 12-for-18 throwing. He also fired four TD passes.Gavyn Buchanan caught two of those TD passes, and had 5 receptions overall for 67 yards. Teammate David Kuku added 3 catches for 71 yards and a TD catch, while Camden Schmidt rush 9 times for 92 yards.
Southridge was led by receiver Koven Burke, who caught 3 passes for 53 yards.

ROYAL 48, ZILLAH 7: The Knights improved to 3-0 on the season in a non-league victory over the Leopards.
Lance Allred had 301 of Royal’s 479 total offensive yards, going 14-24 for 246 passing yards and a TD pass. He also had 13 carries for 55 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Jared Lee added 15 carries for 70 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Lee also was in on 10 tackles.
Jackson Larsen led the Knights’ receiving corps, grabbing 5 passes for 90 yards.
CONNELL 52, BONNERS FERRY 0: The Eagles picked up a road win for their first victory of the year, and Jackson Forsyth led the way with 142 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Carson Lloyd completed 14 of 21 attempts for 229 yards and five TD passes.
Kellen Riner led the receiving corps with 6 catches for 112 yards and 2 TDs.
Max Andersen led Connell’s defense with 9 tackles.
