Unhealthy levels of dust are blowing in SLO County, agency warns. Here’s where
Strong winds were kicking up dust Wednesday and creating poor air quality conditions in southern San Luis Obispo County, according to the county Air Pollution Control District.
Air pollution will worsen from 1 to about 9 p.m., according to the agency.
“Very sensitive individuals such as infants, as well as children and adults with existing respiratory or heart conditions, may experience adverse health effects during high blowing dust periods,” the agency said in a news release.
The strong, southeastern winds are just the beginning of a multi-day storm expected to strike the Central Coast.
The Air Pollution Control District recommended that folks reschedule outdoor activities even if dust is not visible in the air.
If dust and sand do become visible in the air, South County residents should “avoid strenuous activity, remain indoors as much as possible, and set any heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems to re-circulation,” the news release said.
People should contact their doctor if they experience health problems related to the pollution, the agency said.
