UPEI names its new director of athletics and recreation

UPEI has named its new director of athletics and recreation.

Chris Huggan will oversee a department that includes nine varsity teams, numerous club teams, and intramural and fitness programming.

He will also assume management of facilities such as the Canada Games Place, Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and the UPEI Outdoor Turf facility.

Huggan taught physical education and managed the athletics department at Colonel Gray High School for the last nine years.

He has served as president of the P.E.I. Physical Education Association and has coached a variety of sports and teams at both elite and entry levels.

Huggan has a degree in education from the University of New Brunswick and a master's degree in physical education from Memorial University.

He is due to start his new job at UPEI on Nov. 10.
