'Vanderpump Rules': Scheana Shay says Raquel Leviss is 'dead to me,' teases new music
"This has definitely been the hardest to film, to watch back, to relive," the Bravo star said about the "Scandoval" drama in Vanderpump Rules Season 10
Wednesday should have been the season finale of Vanderpump Rules Season 10, but when news broke of "Scandoval," the affair between Tom Sandoval and Raquel "Rachel" Leviss, Bravo picked up the cameras again, with a new finale episode airing May 17 (available to stream on Hayu in Canada).
For Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay, who has been on the show since the beginning, Season 10 has been the hardest one yet.
“This has definitely been the hardest to film, to watch back, to relive,” Shay told Yahoo Canada in an interview in Toronto. “I mean, the fact that we've picked back up cameras for a couple of weeks. That's never happened."
“So it's definitely been challenging.”
Shay was previously a close friend to Leviss, even saying on the show that their relationship was similar to a big sister with her little sister. But that all changed with Scandoval. When it comes to where things currently stand with Shay and Leviss, Shay is very clear that this previous friendship is absolutely over, for both her and other Vanderpump Rules cast members.
“She has no friends left,” Shay said, adding that her relationship with Leviss is "non-existent."
“I have no interest in ever rekindling anything with her.”
Let's not forget that things between Shay and Leviss crossed a line to something personal between the two, when Leviss filed a restraining order against Shay after alleging that Shay punched her, following the big Scandoval reveal. Leviss dropped the restraining order and did not show up for the scheduled court appearance in March.
“I still haven't even gotten an apology for everything she personally put me through," Shay said. "So yeah, she's dead to me.”
“She can say that it was her family trying to convince her to do all of the things that she did, but at the end of the day you're a grown a– woman. You make your own decisions. No one tied you down and told you to file a restraining order. So I was very surprised by all of that.”
When Season 10 of Vanderpump Rules began, a main cause of drama was often between Shay and Katie Maloney. Maloney was mad at Shay for, in her eyes, encouraging Leviss and Maloney's ex-husband, Tom Schwartz, to kiss. It escalated to the point where Maloney wasn't actually part of Shay's wedding to husband Brock Davies, but she watched from a distance at the resort in Mexico.
“This season I regret not having more in-depth conversations with Katie earlier on because I don't think it needed to escalate to where it got,” Shay said. “I wish she could have been at the wedding instead of watching it from the balcony.”
But the relationship between the two cast members has been rectified, coming together during the Scandoval madness.
“We’re so good now,” Shay said. “She was just at my birthday party this weekend. We won an MTV award this week!”
“Her, Ariana [Madix] and I started a little DJ trio for Emo Nite. … It's been great to be able to come back together and that's the good thing about this group is, usually, we can bounce back. I don't think there's bounce back for Tom [Sandoval] and Rachel. But the rest of us, we're good.”
Scheana Shay coming back to her music career
In addition to this new DJ trio, Shay revealed some exciting news about her music career. Shay, who released the hit "Good As Gold" in 2013, is giving fans a new version of the song, with co-stars Ariana Madix and Lala Kent.
“Myself, Lala and Ariana have talked about doing something together this summer,” Shay said. “So we have one song that we just recorded, in mid-June you will see, it's a commercial we just shot.”
“I don't know how much I can say about it yet, but it's a different rendition of ‘Good As Gold.’ I'll say that. I'm so excited.”
One thing that is absolutely certain about Shay, from the moment you meet her, is that this is a woman wearing several different hats throughout the day, with a massive amount of work and responsibility on her plate. But she's clearly a go-getter and does it all with a bright smile and a delightful attitude.
“I don't do well when I have too much downtime or I'm not busy,” Shay said. “I always need something to do so between the podcast, YouTube, the show, just being a full-time mom, I have my work cut out for me.”
One of Shay's latest ventures is her eyelash brand, Viva Verano , that's been so popular that one of the three styles, Summer, has already sold out (now that we've seen these in person, we understand the hype). The name of the brand means "longlive summer," both the brand name and the style names are a nod to Shay's daughter, Summer Moon Honey Davies.
“Looking at how perfect my daughter's lashes were I'm like, ‘I have to pay for those!’” Shay said. “Whether it's extensions or strips, I don't have those lashes, so I wanted to create something where all women could feel as beautiful as baby Summer.”
“They are my favourite lashes I've ever worn, I wouldn't put [my daughter’s name] on a product that I don't stand by 100 per cent."
Of course, Shay's makeup looked flawless during her Toronto appearances, as the star wore her Moon eyelashes throughout the day. But she also has some tips for people who need a bit of help wearing lashes.
“Definitely trim it to fit your eye,” Shay said. “With my lashes, you can even cut them in half and just do them as corner pieces. … Kind of chop them up, make them a little more individual.”
'I just want her to grow up being as confident as possible'
It's been 10 years of Vanderpump Rules and throughout that decade, fans have really been able to see Shay grow and evolve as a person, coming a long way from being a waitress at Lisa Vanderpump's restaurants.
Now that she's a mom, Shay has some life lessons she hopes to pass on to her daughter, raising her to be a confident woman.
“Just always being true to yourself and just standing by the decisions you make, because that's the worst thing, is when you feel like you doubt yourself, like you should have done something different,” Shay said. “So I just want her to grow up being as confident as possible and just confident in the decisions she makes.”
“That's one thing I have struggled with, and I'll look to my mom or anyone just for approval or a second opinion. I still struggle with being confident in my decisions because I'm always afraid of making the wrong one. So I want to break that cycle and I don't want to pass that down to her. I want her to just be a strong, independent, confident woman.”
